What is Biomechanics/Anatomy in Motion©?
The world of biomechanics took a major leap forward when Gary Ward developed his renowned Anatomy in Motion© (AiM) programme. I came across it when I was researching around Sports Massage, anatomy and physiology. AiM is an innovative movement therapy system which frees up movement – from the feet through all the other joints, muscles and fascia, working with both body and mind, to take you from pain to peak performance.
AIM will enhance performance in your chosen sport or normal activities associated with day to day living. It will prevent injuries and address existing and often long-term physical problems.
So, what is AiM and how does it work?

Anatomy in MotionTM transforms recovery from injury – and enhances injury prevention – with an insightful and innovative perspective on the body’s biomechanics.
This approach recognises that the joints, ligaments and muscles in your body have a role to play and everything is dependent on all other parts being capable of doing their job to function optimally. When your body reduces movement to protect something, say due to previous injury for example, it exposes other areas which can become at risk – this may or may not be at the site of pain.
We look at static posture and /or dynamic motion and compare what the body is doing with what it could be doing when effortlessly flowing through gait (walking).
AiM takes a different approach to most physical therapies – which concentrate on stabilising structures. In AiM we recognise that movement is ever present in the system so why stabilise what should be mobilised? All joints move in concert with each other but they somehow lose their way over the years. Whatever your current discomfort, our goal is to teach your body to “find centre” – and by this we mean where the human body holds the richest environment for your healing to take place.
